About Competition Court

The Delahaye 135, also known as the "Coupe des Alpes" after its success in the Alpine Rally, was first presented in 1935 and signified Delahaye's decision to build sportier cars. The Delahaye automobile manufacturing company, started by Emile Delahaye in Tours, France, had been producing cars and trucks since 1894.

With hardly any straight lines and with a fully enclosed front and back, the curvaceous 1937 Delahaye Type 135 resembled a torpedo. Other striking features were the split rear window and sunroof. It was very successful both in the salesroom and on the racing track.

One of the 135's biggest assets and most popular features for coachbuilders was its low-slung chassis, which also increased the car's handling characteristics. It was bodied by Figoni & Falaschi with what is generally considered the first of Joseph Figoni's coupe designs.

The Type 135 was created with variants such as the 135 Competition Speciale (135 CS), designed specifically for racing. The 135 Sport and the 135 Coupe both featured a 3.2-liter engine. The Sport produced 96 horsepower while the Coupe had 110 horsepower. The Type 135 Competition model had a 3.6-liter engine that produced 120 horsepower. The engine was a simple pushrod-operated engine borrowed from the 1927 Type 103 truck engine.

Winning awards for both design and racing, The Type 135 is considered one of the most famous and prestigious vehicles produced by Delahaye.
