About Suiza J12

The stunning 1934 Hispano-Suiza J12 was produced by the prestigious Hispano-Suiza Company, an automotive and engineering firm best known for its luxury cars and aviation engines.

The chassis were outfitted by some of the greatest coachbuilders of the era. The J12 had a three-piece windshield and a secondary windshield for the rear passengers. For passenger privacy, the rear of the car was almost completely enclosed. It featured side-mounted spares, rear-hinged doors, Marchal headlamps, and Rudge-Whitworth wire wheels.

Its huge V12, 10-liter engine, similar to those found in fighter planes, could produce 250 horsepower, making it a solid competitor of Bugatti, Alfa Romeo, and Bentley. This powerful engine was renowned for its quiet operation. In addition, much of the chassis was over-engineered to achieve near-silent operation.

It had fully adjustable servo-assisted brakes. The transmission was geared for the extreme torque produced by the engine. There were only 120 J12's produced. Forty are known to currently exist. The J12 was one of the most expensive pre-war chassis, costing $10,150. Today they command prices ranging from $900,000 to $1,400,000.
