The 1934 Packard Touring Super Eight was the ultimate touring vehicle. It featured a roadster-type body, distinctive headlights, beautiful instrument panel, and a special stowage area for a golf bag. “Super Eight” was the name given to the larger of the two 8-cylinder luxury automobiles produced by the Packard Motor Car Company of Detroit, Michigan. The powerful engine was capable of reaching speeds of up to 90 mph.
The engine's displacement reached 384.8 cubic inches, which produced 145 horsepower. Braking power was provided by four-wheel drums operated by a system of cables. The suspension was comprised of semi-elliptic leaf springs and sold axles.
The '34 models rank among the best running, driving and handling cars of all the classic Packards. These luxurious, high-quality cars were often customized at the factory to fit the individual owner's desires, and were popular with celebrities of the era.
Today, the 1934 Packard Touring Super Eight can be seen in the Dutch Automusa Bergeijk Museum. You will find it at auctions at an estimated price range of $200,000 - $300,000 -- a substantial increase from its original base price of $3,640.
