Fast, lightweight, and affordable, the 1969 Plymouth Road Runner earned instant popularity as Motor Trend Magazine's Car of The Year. It was cited as an exciting yet functional car that everyone liked to drive.

Equipped with the 425-hp and 490 lb-ft of torque 426 (7.0-liter) Hemi V-8 and a three-speed auto, it could hit 60 mph in 5.5 seconds, and complete the quarter mile in 13.6 seconds at 105.4 mph. The Road Runner was powered by the 440 "six pack:"" a 440-cubic inch engine and triple two-barrel Holly-carburetors.

The car featured the Warner Brothers Road Runner cartoon graphics, and a horn that sounded the speedy bird's signature "beep! beep!:"

With its affordable base price of $2,945, the 1969 Plymouth Road Runner gained fame as a muscle car for the masses.
